Winner: Emergency Care Improvement Programme with Wythenshawe Hospital
Prism Improvement & Wythenshawe Hospital, Manchester University FT
We’re proud to announce that alongside Wythenshawe Hospital, part of Manchester University Foundation Trust (MFT) has been named a winner at the 2026 HSJ Partnership Awards, recognising the people and projects improving outcomes for patients nationwide.
"Winning this award is a real testament to the dedication and expertise of everyone involved in our partnership with Wythenshawe Hospital. Improving emergency care is one of the most complex and consequential challenges in the NHS, and this recognition reflects the tireless commitment of both teams to deliver meaningful, lasting change for patients. At Prism Improvement, we believe that sustainable transformation comes from working alongside clinical and operational staff – not imposing solutions from the outside, and Wythenshawe has been an outstanding partner in that endeavour. We're proud of what we've achieved together, and this award motivates us to keep raising the bar."
Jez Tozer, CEO, Prism Improvement
"This award belongs to the nurses, clinicians, operational teams and improvement leads at Wythenshawe Hospital who showed up every day and made this happen. When we first came together with MFT, we made a deliberate choice to listen before we acted. Our insight and discovery phase wasn't about arriving with a plan - it was about understanding what staff already knew and building on it together. What emerged was a genuinely shared picture of where change was needed most. That shared understanding is what allowed us to move at pace, redesigning how patients flow through the front door, expanding the use of SDEC, improving the daily rhythm of the site, and embedding more consistent discharge practices across wards. None of that happens without trust, and trust is built with people, not processes. Seeing Medical SDEC hit 40.8% of ED patients in November - above target, and watching AMU discharges before 4pm climb from 44% to over 50% in just a few months tells you what's possible when staff feel genuinely involved in improvement. We're proud to have stood alongside the Wythenshawe team in that work, and this recognition is a tribute to every one of them."

As the architect of much of the Prism Improvement approach, Jez Tozer founded the company in 2017 following his frustrations with existing performance consultancy firms in the market, who he felt did not always adequately deliver value against the needs of the organisations he worked with. More recently, Jez has also taken the reins of Four Eyes Insight, harnessing the power of their track record in data and analytics to enhance the change that can be delivered across the group.
Originally trained as a pharmacist, Jez then moved into operational management, working in all trust departments from radiology through to A&E, from divisional manager level through to the executive board, and ultimately COO.
